WXXI JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Multimedia Engagement Producer
DIVISION: Center for Public Affairs
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time Exempt
REPORTS TO: News & Public Affairs Director
The Multimedia Engagement Producer is responsible for integrating WXXI’s multimedia news and public affairs content and engaging audiences across all distribution platforms. The producer works with the news staff and other content producers to produce or adapt content for particular platforms; builds opportunities for broadcast, digital, web, mobile, and in-person audience participation; and seeks innovative ways to make use of evolving technologies. This position builds and maintains the department’s online and social media efforts and edits all online material.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Determine daily content integration across all distribution platforms. Develop modifications to content and workflow to maximize multimedia integration.
2. Produce web content to complement or promote multimedia work of reporters and producers. Assist reporters and producers in producing multimedia content.
3. Edit the department’s web content for timeliness, accuracy, consistency, and completeness. Monitor user-friendliness of all news and information content on the web.
4. Train and assist with implementation of the Public Insight Network.
5. Develop and implement social media strategies designed to increase audience for and interactivity of news and public affairs content. Strategies include, but are not limited to, e-newsletters, live chats, podcasts, Twitter, blogging, polls, Google maps and other multi-media presentations, and will continually evolve to incorporate new technologies.
6. Work collaboratively with other departments such as Interactive Services and Creative Services to maximize multimedia impact and promote the WXXI news products.
7. Serve as backup to the department director during periods of absence.
8. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent
- 3+ years news management and/or reporting experience
- Strong editorial, organizational, writing, and interpersonal skills
- Experience developing and implementing web strategies for newsrooms, including digital audio and video production and social media
- Ability to work in a deadline environment that requires great attention to detail.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Radio and television reporting and producing experience
