JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:                         Radio Announcer/Board Operator
DIVISION:                          FM Radio
REPORTS TO:                     FM Music Director
CLASSIFICATION:               Casual, Non-Exempt

DUTIES:

This position is responsible for creating and presenting classical music programming on Rochester’s all-classical station in a style that engages the listener and is free from technical mishaps.  Technical operation of FM control includes the presentation of underwriting and promotional announcements, weather and traffic reports, EAS tests and other automated programs as scheduled in the daily program log.   This includes accurately reporting aired program elements and underwriting credits on the electronic program log, and reporting technical discrepancies to Operations and/or Engineering as appropriate.  

Programming should be selected in conjunction with the Classical Music Programming Guidelines, working with the FM 91.5 Music Director to present selections that will help build listenership, generate audience loyalty and encourage financial support of WXXI programming.  This includes updating the play history in Music Director, and posting playlists in advance of the shift via Public Interactive.

Availability to fill in for full-time announcers or other casual announcers when assigned.  Such assignments may come at short notice (for example, due to illness of another employee).  WXXI recognizes that casual employees have other obligations, but it is expected that they will have reasonable availability to fill in for other announcers when needed.

Responsible for checking all electronic communications including First Class, WebDacs, PRSS Content Depot and email to stay abreast of current operations updates.

REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrated know­ledge of classical music and performers, command of foreign pronunciation common to classical music. Pleasant conversational speaking voice. Demonstrated proficiency with computers, digital file formats, web and various social media.

Willingness to work unusual hours, particularly weekends and evenings.
