Job Description

Position:                    Chef/Café Manager
Division:                    Little Theatre
Reports to:                 General Manager
Status:                       Full-time, Exempt

 

Primary Function:    Responsible for day-to-day operations of The Little Café, demonstrating leadership and food preparation proficiency.  Coordinate Café operations, themes and events that are in keeping with the mission of The Little Theatre.  Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, implementation of cost-effective practices for operation and management of Café and supervision and development of Café staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares food required for evening menu and catered special events
  2. Responsible for the daily operations of the café
  3. Provides professional leadership and direction to café personnel
  4. Ensures all recipes, food preparation, and presentations meet Café specifications and commitment to quality
  5. Maintains a safe, orderly, and clean kitchen, using proper food-handling techniques
  6. Create daily menus for Café and for special events
  7. Verifies that Café staff follows all recipes and portion sizes correctly
  8. Conducts food cost analysis
  9. Responsible for product ordering
  10. Maintains inventory
  11. Works with Assistant Café Manager on staff scheduling
  12. Other duties or special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Education Required:

  1. A minimum of 2 years working in a commercial food preparation/supervisory position
  2. Serve Safe or other recognized hygiene certification required (if not currently certified, you will be required to do so in first 60 days of employment)
  3. College or culinary training preferred or demonstrated professional experience in cooking and food production
  4. Day, evening and weekend availability required

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Math proficiency (for performing food cost analysis, product ordering)
  2. Special event planning experience
  3. Understanding of proper use of major kitchen equipment, including stoves, refrigeration, slicer, knives, Panini grill, espresso machine, and warmers.
  4. Commitment to quality service, safety standards and food preparation
  5. Use of basic software programs including Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel
  6. Ability to work under pressure in a time-sensitive environment
  7. Able to take direction from business owner
  8. Demonstrates strong leadership skills and is a team player
  9. Must hold a valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  10. Subject to background check
