JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title:                                   Innovation Trail Editor
Location:                                             WXXI Center for Public Affairs
Division:                                              Radio/Television                               

This is a one year grant driven position with potential for sustainability.

Position Summary:
The Innovation Trail Editor coordinates the daily coverage activities of the Innovation Trail and edits final content to assure accuracy and quality. The editor will also find connections among communities to fully develop stories in context and manage the production flow of those stories.

Duties and Responsibilities:                                                                                      
•      Coordinate reporter training sessions;
•      Oversee content for all platforms, including. Radio, TV, Web, mobile, RSS and social media assignments. Provide final editing of content where necessary;
•      Assure efficient, high-quality production and work flow among reporters, and Innovation Trail stations;
•      Ensure Innovation Trail stories are in context for each station, including repurposing stories from different communities to fit together on one or more stations as needed;
•      Where necessary, produce content, including reports and series, blog entries, white papers and transcripts; 
•      Provide frequent air-checks and quality assessment with reporters. Work with the Innovation Trail news directors and content to regularly evaluate reporter performance;
•      Participate in roundtable discussions, interviews and community engagement activities.
•      Develop and launch weekly podcast
•      Develop and assign investigative series, and accompanying radio/television talk programs and engagement events.
               
Qualifications and Education Required:

  • Three - five years on-air broadcast news experience.
  • Experience with multimedia production and new media production.
  • Solid news judgment and ability to perform without supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and a diverse staff working in dispersed geographic areas of New York State.
  • Solid communications and collaboration skills.
  • College degree (Journalism) preferred.
  • Ability to work under extreme deadline pressure.
