JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITON: Educational Training Coordinator
DIVISION: Education and Interactive Services
REPORTS TO: Assistant V.P. of Education and Interactive Services
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Exempt
40 hours
Broad Function:
Coordinate training programs and training services for educators, child caregivers and parents in the use of WXXI programs and services.
Coordinate community events promoting use of WXXI educational programs and services with families, educators, members and the general public that meet WXXI mission and goals and strengthen ties to the WXXI audience and community.
Provide curriculum advice and development to educational productions and outreach programs.
This position works in a team environment, serving internal and external clients and collaborates with all other areas of WXXI. This position also develops and strengthens outside partnerships with educational institutions, community and with state and local institutions.
Specific Duties:
WXXI Training Initiatives: Organize and implement a train the trainer program for caregiver and family literacy training to extend the use of WXXI children's programming to increase school readiness and literacy. Offer media literacy/child development workshops at regional conferences and through partnering organizations in the community with a particular focus on parents, child caregivers and K-2 educators of low-literacy, rural, children with disabilities and ESL/ESOL populations. Offer educational workshops on utilization of WXXI services and educational programming and ways to integrate them into the curriculum.
Organize and promote professional development opportunities for educators and child caregivers using distance learning technologies (i.e. Teacherline, Annenberg/CPB programming, Video On-Demand Services, DTV services.)
Curriculum Advisor/Developer for Homework Hotline: Serve as instructional consultant to studio production and segment work. Develop and identify curriculum resources that bring added value to the program and ongoing use of the segments after their broadcast (on-demand, workshops, curriculum guides) Assist in production of segment work to ensure educational value and evaluation of effectiveness. Coordinate a teacher panel to advise on the curriculum and direction of the show. Assist with liaison activities to Dial-A-Teacher organizations around issues of curriculum and educational values.
Maintain budget, statistical and data related to projects and training activities for submission to national and state funders.
Collaborate with internal departments and committees and outside partners to recommend appropriate goals for outreach that best leverage WXXI resources.
Collaborate with community and statewide organizations to promote WXXI educational services (professional organizations in early childhood and K-12 education, museums, libraries, K-12 schools)
Aggressively fundraise to support training and educational evaluation of programs.
Create marketing materials in collaboration with Creative Services department promoting training activities and services for direct marketing and corporate fundraising.
Provide marketing focus for Homework Hotline in cooperation with Station Relations.
Educational Requirements: Master’s Degree or Appropriate Experience, Educational/Teaching/Training experience preferred.
Experience & Skills:
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Experience in education, particularly early childhood, K-12 audiences & institutions.
Excellent coordination, budgeting and organizational skills, Grant writing and fundraising experience a plus.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people
Ability to work independently. Flexibility with regard to schedule and work assignments
Knowledge and comfort with computers and software, media and technology as it pertains to education and training job requirements.
NYS Driver's License
Salary range - $30,000 - $35,000.
