WXXI’S HOMEWORK HOTLINE BRINGS HOME THE NEW YORK STATE BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

(Rochester, New York) July 19, 2005 – For the second year in a row WXXI-TV’s Homework Hotline is awarded “Best Individual Program or Series designed for Children” by the New York State Broadcasters Association (NYSBA). WXXI’s Vice President of Television Gary Walker was presented with the award by Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro at the 40th Annual Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting banquet at Sagamore Resort Hotel on Lake George in Bolton Landing, New York. This is the second year in a row that Homework Hotline has been honored by the NYSBA in this category.
Broadcast throughout the school year on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11) in Rochester, New York and on stations across New York State, Homework Hotline supports New York State education’s curriculum by closely adhering to the New York State Learning Standards. Geared to children in grades five through 12, students phone in their questions to both Rochester Dial Teacher, operated by the Rochester Teachers Association and New York City Dial-A-Teacher, operated by the United Federation of Teachers. Questions come from all over New York State and as far as Vermont and Canada. Homework Hotline is funded by New York State United Teachers (NYSUT).
