WXXI BROADCASTS SENATE NOMINATION HEARINGS FOR
JOHN ROBERTS STARTING SEPTEMBER 6

(Rochester, New York) September 2, 2005 – WXXI will offer gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on the nomination of John G. Roberts to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States beginning Tuesday, September 6 at 1:30 p.m. on its digital channel, WXXI-Create (DTV 21.3 Time Warner Digital Cable 433) with a NewsHour Special and on AM 1370 with special coverage from National Public Radio (NPR).

NewsHour’s live coverage of the Senate nomination hearings will air on Tuesday, September 6 from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday, September 7 and Thursday, September 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on WXXI-Create (DTV 21.3 Time Warner Digital Cable 433). NewsHour anchor Jim Lehrer will be joined by Mark Shields and David Brooks, as well as Washington bureau chief for the National Law Journal Marcia Coyle and Chicago Tribune law reporter Jan Crawford Greenburg to analyze the hearings.

NPR’s Nina Totenberg and Neal Conan will co-anchor live coverage of the hearings on AM 1370 on Tuesday, September 6 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, September 7 and Thursday, September 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. AM 1370 will break early from the special coverage, at 4 p.m., so that it can bring listeners its regularly scheduled All Things Considered program.

Washington Week will also offer a nightly, half-hour re-cap of the hearings at 10 p.m. beginning Tuesday, September 6 on WXXI-Create (DTV 21.3 Time Warner Digital Cable 433). In addition to coverage of the hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Washington Week will also recount testimony from outside groups and other witnesses on the Roberts’ nomination on Friday, September 9 and Saturday, September 10 at 10 p.m. on WXXI-Create (DTV 21.3 Time Warner Digital Cable 433).
