WXXI-FM KICKS OFF ITS NEW, LIVE RADIO SERIES WITH VIOLINIST TAI MURRAY
Rochester, New York (April 19, 2006) –Backstage Pass, a new live radio series on Classical 91.5/90.3, is committed to highlighting performing artists in Rochester. This new series gives Rochesterians the opportunity to hear local and visiting musicians perform live in WXXI’s newly renovated Studio E. Violinist Tai Murray joins WXXI-FM host Julia Figueras for the first Backstage Pass on Friday, May 19 at 1 p.m. on Classical 91.5/90.3.
Ms. Murray will talk with Ms. Figueras about her experiences on the concert stage as an African-American musician and preview some of the music from her upcoming concert at the Canandaigua Lake Chamber Music Festival on May 21. Since making her debut with the Chicago Symphony at age eight, Ms. Murray has performed extensively as a soloist with orchestras across the United States and Europe. Born in 1982, she is currently studying at the Juilliard School. She has performed with the Baltimore, Chicago, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Utah and Washington, DC Symphonies, and performs regularly with chamber ensembles in New York, Philadelphia and Jacksonville.
Backstage Pass is a new, hour-long series dedicated to bringing listeners backstage for a visit with great musicians – be it a concert pianist who is in Rochester to perform with the RPO, a faculty member from the Eastman School of Music, or a Grammy-award winning artist on tour. Backstage Pass is made possible in part by a grant from the Gouvernet Arts Fund at Rochester Area Community Foundation, encouraging support of the Arts.
