WXXI-TV AND AM 1370 ARE ROCHESTER’S ONLY STATIONS TO CARRY UPCOMING SPITZER AND FASO DEBATE AND WALSH AND MAFFEI DEBATE

Rochester, New York (October 6, 2006) – New York State Gubernatorial candidates John J. Faso and Eliot L. Spitzer will go head to head in a live debate broadcast from WNED studios in downtown Buffalo, New York on Thursday, October 12. Made possible through a partnership with WNED, The Buffalo News and the Association of Public Broadcasting Stations of New York, the live debate will air in Rochester on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11) and AM 1370 at 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, and on New York’s eight other public television stations, and offered to all public radio stations in the state. Republican candidate Faso and Democratic candidate Spitzer will answer questions posed by five panelists: Marian Deutschman, Ph.D., League of Women Voters of New York State; Bob McCarthy, The Buffalo News; Mark Leitner, WNED-AM 970; Karen DeWitt, WXXI’s Capitol Bureau Correspondent; and Michelle Curtis, Buffalo State College graduate student.

The debate between New York’s 25th Congressional District candidates – Democratic challenger Dan Maffei and Congressman James Walsh, held in Syracuse, New York and taped at WCNY-TV on Tuesday, October 10, will air on AM 1370 on Friday, October 13 at 7 p.m. and on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11) at 9 p.m.

Throughout the month of October WXXI will bring its viewers and listeners special election coverage on WXXI-TV and AM 1370 including Candidate Free Air Time (10/23-11/5), New York Matters (10/20), Voice of the Voter (10/27) and a comprehensive election site at WXXI.org/election.
