WXXI-FM RECOGNIZED AT 2006 PRPD AWARDS FOR
ITS CREATIVE EXCELLENCE

(Rochester, NY) September 21, 2006WXXI-FM received an Honorable Mention at this year’s Public Radio Program Directors (PRPD) Conference, during the Fourth Annual Award for Creative Excellence (ACE) Ceremony on September 15, 2006. The ACE competition honors the outstanding application of public radio’s core values in News, Music Programming, On-Air Fundraising and Promotion/Imaging and WXXI was recognized in the category of Promotions/Station Imaging for Brenda Tremblay’s Holiday Tune In spots.

Each Tune In spot featured a WXXI-FM host sharing a favorite holiday memory, activity or idea, mixed with music and sound effects to create a sense of place. The spots aired throughout the month of December 2005, promoting the sound and style of the station’s holiday programming. The spots provided an opportunity for listeners to learn more about WXXI-FM’s Simon Pontin, Mordecai Lipshutz, Julia Figueras, Richard Gladwell, Gerry Szymanski, Jack Ertle and John Andres.

PRPD is a vital part of the public radio community with a membership that includes almost 200 stations as well as both national networks and independent producers. The PRPD Conference was held at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center in Philadelphia, PA September 13-16, 2006.
