WXXI NAMES BREAST CANCER COALITION OF ROCHESTER AS ITS
SPEAKING OF WOMEN’S HEALTH COMMUNITY INVESTMENT
(Rochester, NY) July 11, 2007 - In conjunction with the Speaking of Women's Health (SWH) conference, hosted by WXXI and held on Friday, August 17, 2007 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, WXXI is pleased to announce the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester (BCCR) as the 2007 Speaking of Women's Health Community Investment recipient. SWH is dedicated to reinvesting in the communities where conferences and events are held. In support of the Rochester community, WXXI will produce a 30-second awareness spot for the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester to run on WXXI-TV for one year.
"We are honored to be selected as this year's Speaking of Women's Health Community Investment recipient” said Holly Anderson, Executive Director of BCCR. “We pledge to be here working in the trenches, and look forward to the day that no woman hears the words, ‘you have breast cancer' again!"
The BCCR, established in 1997 as a not-for-profit organization, provides education and support, encourages women to be advocates for their health, and awards annual local research grants for the purpose of eradicating breast cancer. New York State alone has 12,000 new cases and 2,500 deaths reported annually. BCCR provides a center where women and families traveling this journey can feel free to express themselves, gather information and receive support from others. BCCR is the only independent organization focused specifically on breast cancer in the Greater Rochester region.
The sold-out SWH Conference features national speakers, free health screenings, a continental breakfast, luncheon, and a luxurious gift bag valued at $150 for every attendee. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to talk with local health care professionals from Strong Health about their health, wellness and lifestyle. In addition, SWH will have more than 12 breakout sessions available on topics ranging from heart health, osteoporosis, diabetes, joint pain and breast health.
SWH is presented in Rochester by WXXI, and is sponsored locally by the University of Rochester Medical Center/Strong Health and Senator Joseph Robach with media sponsors 13 WHAM-TV, WHAM-DT CW, WHAM 1180, The Drive 100.5 and Country 107.3.
