WXXI-FM’s BACKSTAGE PASS BRINGS HOME A 2007 RADIO PROGRAMMING AND PROMOTIONS FINALIST AWARD FROM
THE NEW YORK FESTIVALS

Rochester, New York (July 16, 2007) – WXXI’s Backstage Pass with the RPO Marimba Band, an episode from the live, monthly radio series produced by WXXI Radio and heard on Classical 91.5/90.3, garnered a 2007 Radio Programming and Promotions Finalist Award from the New York Festivals (NYF) at the New York Festivals Awards Gala held June 28, 2007 at the Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan. Awarded the Best Music Special, the episode featured the RPO Marimba Band performing contemporary Caribbean music live in the Henry Epstein Studio at WXXI. The band members also spoke candidly with Backstage Pass host Julia Figueras about the complexities and costs of percussion, the nuances in percussion performance, and ways to teach and inspire young musicians.
