LOCAL ELEMENTARY STUDENTS EARN FIRST PLACE IN WXXI’S READING RAINBOW YOUNG WRITERS & ILLUSTRATORS CONTEST AND GO ON TO NATIONAL
May 31, 2007 (ROCHESTER, NY)- WXXI is pleased to announce the winners of its Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Awards Competition Contest. Over 200 students in kindergarten, first, second and third grades participated in the annual contest, which invited children to create their own original picture book with text and companion illustrations.
Kindergartener Cecilia from Fairport, first grader Serena from Nunda, second grader Monica from Webster and third grader Jason from Rochester were all first-place winners in their age divisions. Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Awards Competition Contest is part of the Emmy Award-winning PBS television series Reading Rainbow, which encourages children to discover books, reading and the love of learning. Reading Rainbow airs on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11), Monday through Friday at 6 a.m., and Monday through Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
