Rochester, New York (December 2, 2008) – WXXI presented Harry P. Trueheart III with the 2008 Associate of the Year Award, which recognizes those individuals who have made significant contributions in support of WXXI, its broadcasts, and operations. Mr. Trueheart received the honor at WXXI’s Associates Society dinner held at the Country Club of Rochester on November 15, 2008. More than 175 WXXI supporters attended the annual event with special guest speaker David Folkenflik, NPR’s media correspondent.

One of WXXI’s charter members, Mr. Trueheart was elected to WXXI’s Board of Trustees in 1994, and served as Chairman from 2001 to 2003. He was a driving force behind the success of WXXI’s largest capital campaign, the 21/21 Vision Campaign that funded WXXI’s digital transition. Mr. Trueheart was a strong proponent of increasing WXXI’s national footprint, encouraging the station to produce programs with national appeal that would broadcast across the country. Today, WXXI produces four national series: Second Opinion, New York Wine & Table, Rochester International Jazz Festival, and Assignment: The World. Mr. Trueheart currently serves on the WXXI Trustee Council.

"WXXI is an incredible community resource,” said Mr. Trueheart after receiving the award. “Not only does it serve a broad cross section of our community, but it carries the reputation of our community to the rest of the country with its award-winning national programming. It has been a pleasure supporting WXXI and enjoying its programs.”

To commemorate the 2008 Associate of the Year, a magnolia tree has been planted at Highland Park in honor of Mr. Trueheart’s dedication to WXXI. Mr. Trueheart’s name has also been inscribed on WXXI’s Associate of the Year plaque, which includes the names of other WXXI friends including Dr. Nancy Perkins Weyl, Ted Shepard, Dick Eisenhart, B. Thomas Golisano, George M. Ewing, Sr., and Ed Saphar.

As Chairman, and former Managing Partner of Nixon Peabody, LLP, Mr. Trueheart has served as the chief executive of the firm for fourteen years and led its growth to a national and international law firm. Mr. Trueheart is an international lawyer, a mediator and arbitrator. He serves on the board of directors of the Rochester Business Alliance and Frontier Telephone of Rochester. Mr. Trueheart received his B.A. and J.D. from Harvard University.
