WXXI TO CARRY LIVE STREAM SPANISH LANGUAGE VERSION OF SOTOMAYOR SUPREME COURT CONFIRMATION HEARINGS
Rochester, NY (July 12, 2009) — PBS today announced an agreement with impreMedia to live stream PBS' NewsHour feed of Judge Sonia Sotomayor's Senate confirmation hearings, translated to Spanish, online. To access the feed, visit WXXI.org/newshour-sotomayor. If confirmed, Sotomayor would be the first Hispanic U.S. Supreme Court justice and the third woman to serve on the high court.
In addition to streaming both the Spanish and English versions online, WXXI will air the NewsHour Special Coverage: Sonia Sotomayor Senate Confirmation Hearings Monday, July 13 beginning at 10 a.m., and Tuesday, July 14 through Thursday, July 16 beginning at 9 a.m. on WXXI-WORLD (DT21.2/cable 524). At 10 p.m. each evening, AM 1370 will broadcast a one-hour NPR special to wrap up the day’s events.On Tuesday at 1 p.m. on AM 1370 during 1370 Connection, host Bob Smith will talk about Sotomayor's appointment to the Supreme Court with appellate law expert and past New York State Bar Association President Vince Buzard. Following 1370 Connection on Tuesday, July 14 at 3 p.m., and Wednesday, July 15 at 3 p.m. AM 1370 will provide special coverage of the hearings from NPR with Talk of the Nation's Neal Conan. The programs will cover two of the four hearings on those days, and guests will be on hand to talk about the process and politics of Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
