STEVE DAWE JOINS WXXI’S NEWS TEAM
(Rochester, New York) November 11, 2009 – WXXI Public Broadcasting has named Steve Dawe the Director of Multimedia Engagement for WXXI's Center for Public Affairs. In this newly created position, Dawe will focus on integrating WXXI's news and public affairs content across all platforms, including broadcast, digital, online and mobile. In addition to making the department's in-depth news and information more accessible for all audiences, he will develop social media strategies to increase community engagement.
Dawe has nearly two decades of experience covering news in Rochester, most recently serving as news director for 13WHAM-TV. Under his leadership, the station won several awards for news coverage from the Associated Press, The Radio & Television News Directors' Association and the New York State Broadcasters Association.
A 1990 graduate of St. John Fisher, Dawe was inducted into the college’s Jack Palvino Communications/Journalism Hall of Fame in 2005. He resides in Pittsford.
WXXI recently merged its radio, television and online news services to create the WXXI Center for Public Affairs. This afforded WXXI the ability to present an on-air and on-line news service that provides the community with rich content in local, national and international news and information. The addition of Dawe strengthens WXXI’s role as Rochester’s trusted news source. Presenting the best from the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), National Public Radio (NPR) and local reporters and producers, WXXI provides a deeper understanding of issues that affect the world around us.
