Rochester, New York January 19, 2010 – Homework Hotline,WXXI’s live call-in show where kids receive help with homework problems right on the air, Blowers, a Canandaigua Academy junior, has always dreamed of having her own cooking program, and the 12 Healthy You cooking segments she hosts for WXXI’s Homework Hotline bring her one step closer to living that dream. Each one-minute segment presents a healthy recipe that Blowers prepares on the set. The recipes are then made available on the show’s web site at <www.homeworkhotline.org>. Designed for children in grades four through 12, Homework Hotline provides the tools students need to succeed with homework, and supports academic achievement across a variety of New York State Learning Standards. Teachers from Rochester Dial-A-Teacher and New York City Dial-A-Teacher take the calls and send them to WXXI studios in Rochester, where host teachers, who are experts in subjects across the curriculum, are standing by ready to help kids work through their homework assignments live on television. Produced by WXXI, Homework Hotline has garnered eight New York State Broadcasters Association awards for best program or series designed for children, plus a Silver Telly, Bronze Telly, and an Aurora award. New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) funds the program. Funding for Healthy You is provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Daisy Marquis Jones Foundation.
