WXXI TO CARRY LIVE COVERAGE OF ELENA KAGAN’S
Rochester, NY (July 17, 2010) — WXXI-WORLD (DT21.2/cable 524) will carry PBS NewsHour’s live coverage of the Senate Confirmation Hearings for Elena Kagan's nomination for appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court, beginning Monday, June 28 at 12:30 p.m. Coverage will begin with the Senate Judiciary Committee members' statements, and will include Kagan's statement, and questions and answers with Kagan. The first day of the hearings is projected to run for a half day, and will continue with full days on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 29-30 at 9 a.m. on WXXI-WORLD. In addition to broadcasting the hearings on WORLD, WXXI will stream the audio online at WXXI.org.
NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff will host the gavel-to-gavel coverage from a booth overlooking the hearing room in the Hart Senate Office Building. She’ll be joined by Marcia Coyle, who regularly covers the Supreme Court for the NewsHour and for the National Law Journal. Online live streaming video of the coverage will be available via the PBS NewsHour site. During extended breaks, on the live Web stream, Hari Sreenevisan will engage Marcia Coyle with questions submitted by viewers via email, Twitter or Facebook. PBS NewsHour's regular daily program, airing on WXXI-TV (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11) at 7 p.m., will include highlights of the additional testimony. AM 1370 will also carry NPR’s one-hour wrap up of the day’s events at 10 each evening.
