(Rochester, New York) October 31, 2011 – WXXI named the Louis S. and Molly B. Wolk Foundation the 2011 Associate of the Year at its annual Associates Society dinner on Saturday, October 29. WXXI President Norm Silverstein presented the award, which recognizes those who have made significant contributions in support of WXXI’s mission of public service. Jeremy Wolk, the Wolk’s great nephew and Dr. Alvin Ureles, their longtime friend, accepted the award on the foundation’s behalf. More than 150 WXXI supporters attended the event with special guest speaker Don Gonyea, NPR’s National Political Correspondent based in Washington, D.C.

Louis Wolk, who was a prominent Rochester real estate entrepreneur and civic philanthropist, and his wife, Molly, who was an active community volunteer, founded the Wolk Foundation in the late 1980s. The foundation supports educational, cultural, healthcare, and social programs in the Rochester area. WXXI has also been the recipient of the foundation’s contributions, which includes support of WXXI’s 2000-2003 Capital Campaign for its digital TV transition, plus production funding for national TV programs including Rochester International Jazz Festival and Echoes of the Ancients, as well as Classical 91.5’s High Holy Days broadcasts.

To commemorate the award, the foundation’s name has been inscribed on WXXI’s Associate of the Year plaque, which includes the names of other recipients including Suzanne Gouvernet, Harry P. Truehart III, Dr. Nancy Perkins Weyl, Ted Shepard, Dick Eisenhart, B. Thomas Golisano, George M. Ewing, Sr., and Ed Saphar.
