5,000 Items Up for Bid at

Rochester, New York (April 6, 2011) – WXXI kicks off its 43rd Annual Online Auction on Saturday, April 16 with more than 5,000 items valued at $600,000. This year’s Auction features a 2011 Silver Metallic Ford Fiesta SE from Shepard Ford, a Sandals All Inclusive Package, food and wine certificates, exciting town packages, original artwork from featured artists Jim Christy and Laura Wilder, and a 2011 collectible WXXI Auction truck. To preview some of the Auction's best merchandise, tune in to WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11) for the WXXI Auction 2011 Kick-Off Special on Saturday, April 16 at 8 p.m.

Individuals can register for their bidders’ accounts by logging on to Everyone who registers by April 17 will receive a free, one-year subscription to Newsweek magazine. If individuals overbid on an item by $25 or more, they will receive a $5 gift certificate for the Ravioli Shop, and a $5 gift certificate for Cabot Creamery.

In addition to the WXXI Auction 2011 Kick-Off Special on Saturday, April 16, WXXI will also showcase additional merchandise in preview specials airing on WXXI’s additional DT channels – World (DT21.2/cable 524) and Create (DT21.3/cable 433). Visit for a complete broadcast schedule.

Proceeds from the Auction support the quality programs and services the station provides to the Rochester community, including PBS and NPR programming; locally produced documentaries such as Restoring a Masterpiece: The Renovation of the Eastman Theatre and Memories of Midtown; locally produced TV series such as Second Opinion, Homework Hotline, and New York Wine & Table; and radio series like Fascinatin’ Rhythm and With Heart and Voice; WXXI's Educational Video Library service, VITAL; and outreach initiatives such as teacher workshops, community forums, and film screenings.
