WXXI’S INNOVATION TRAIL LOOKS AT THE FUTURE OF ENERGY AND THE IMPACT IT WILL HAVE ON ROCHESTER IN BEYOND THE LIGHT SWITCH: AN INNOVATION CONVERSATION
Airing Thursday, September 29 at 9 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD
Rochester, New York (September 26, 2011) – WXXI’s Innovation Trail will explore how Rochester is preparing to meet its future energy challenges in Beyond the Light Switch: An Innovation Conversation, airing Thursday, September 29 at 9 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT 21.1/cable 1011 and 11). Innovation Trail editor Rachel Ward will be joined by James Winebrake, Ph.D., professor and dean at Rochester Institute of Technology, to discuss alternative energy sources and how they can be implemented in our community.
The special also highlights two area projects that are developing renewable energy. Innovation Trail reporter Zack Seward reports on the potential to use hydrokinetic power to supply to downtown Rochester, and visits Seneca Meadows Landfill in Waterloo, N.Y. – a company that is capturing landfill gas to create electricity.
Beyond the Light Switch: An Innovation Conversation airs immediately following the conclusion of the national production, Beyond the Light Switch, a two-part series that explores the trade-offs associated with different means of energy production, like coal power, hydraulic fracturing for natural gas, nuclear, solar power, and wind power. Beyond the Light Switch airs Wednesday, September 28 at 8 p.m., with the second half airing Thursday, September 29 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD.
Part of Innovation Trail’s ongoing Innovation Conversation series, Beyond the Light Switch: An Innovation Conversation will also be available online at InnovationTrail.org following the broadcast. Production funding for this special was made possible, in part, by Detroit Public Television.
