WXXI REMEMBERS RED NEWT’S DEBRA WHITING WITH A SPECIAL BROADCAST OF NEW YORK WINE AND TABLE
Rochester, New York (July 12, 2011) – In memory of Debra Whiting, Executive Chef & Co-Owner of Red Newt Cellars Winery & Bistro, who was killed in a car accident on June 30, 2011, WXXI will rebroadcast an archived episode of New York Wine and Table that featured Red Newt Cellars. New York Wine and Table “Farming: A Team Effort” will air Saturday, July 23 at 12:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11).
In New York Wine and Table “Farming: A Team Effort” host Susan Hunt visits Red Newt Cellars Winery & Bistro to talk with Mrs. Whiting and her husband David about the winery and bistro, their monthly winemakers dinners, and how Mrs. Whiting purchases produce from a variety of local farmers to pair perfectly with the wines her husband makes.
The Whitings opened Red Newt Cellars Winery & Bistro on the east side of Seneca Lake in 1999, and since then the husband-and-wife team have produced award-winning wines from east Seneca Lake vineyards and offered innovative Finger Lakes cuisine. Mrs. Whiting was a member on the executive board of the Finger Lakes Culinary Bounty and was devoted to the abundance of the region. A Georgia native who was raised in Connecticut, Whiting spent the first 15 years of her professional career in immunology research.
