(Rochester, New York) May 10, 2011 – WXXI received the 2010-2011 Community Partner Volunteer of the Year Award from the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra last night during the RPO’s Volunteer Recognition Night at Hochstein School of Music and Dance. WXXI President Norm Silverstein accepted the award, which recognized WXXI’s dedication to the orchestra, and the recent success of its joint fundraiser, the Education Takes the Stage luncheon. The fundraiser raised more than $50,000 with proceeds supporting the education programs of both WXXI and the RPO.

“The Education Takes the Stage luncheon was a great success,” said Silverstein. “Nearly 700 people attended the event, which proves that Rochester truly values the quality education programs that WXXI and the RPO offer the children in our community."

Nominations for the Volunteer of the Year awards are submitted by RPO staff and volunteer peers, and selected by the Volunteer Services Committee of the RPO. The RPO’s Volunteer Recognition Night, which celebrated its 19th year of Volunteer Enrichment programs, featured Maestro Christopher Seaman as honored guest. Maestro Seaman will retire as Music Director of the RPO this year.
