Rochester, New York (December 15, 2011) –  A local ten-year-old girl recently sent a letter to WXXI News asking for a whole day of “happy news” and offering to round up some of her friends to listen.  That letter is inspiring WXXI News to present a series of stories that focus on the positive in local health, business, education, arts, sports, and more. The weeklong radio series named after its author, Liza’s Letter,  begins Monday, December 26th, airing during Morning Edition (5 a.m. to 9 a.m.) onWXXI-AM 1370, WRUR-FM 88.5, WXXY-FM 90.3, and WXXI-FM HD2.

During the series, listeners will:
·         Meet Liza and find out what inspired her letter,
·         Stop at a barbershop where haircuts and healthcare mix,
·         Learn about “the art” of raising children in a troubled neighborhood,
·         See the softer side of one of Rochester’s toughest hockey players,
·         Discover the inner thoughts of young prisoners,
·         Listen to an office jam session.

Stories and pictures from Liza’s Letter can also be found online at WXXINews.org.

Also that week of December 26th NPR News is presenting a national series called A Good Year that explores the “glass half full.”  Listeners will find out why 2011 was a good year for sweet potatoes, Volkswagen, tennis star Novak Djokovic, and many other people, places, and things. A Good Year airs during Morning Edition on WXXI-AM 1370, WRUR-FM 88.5, WXXY-FM 90.3, and WXXI-FM HD2.
