EXCELLUS BLUECROSS BLUESHIELD CEO DAVID KLEIN TALKS PERSONALLY ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF ADVANCE CARE PLANNING ON

Rochester, New York (April 12, 2011) – In honor of National Healthcare Decisions Day, AM 1370 presents a special edition of 1370 Connection with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield CEO David Klein, airing Monday, April 16 at 12 noon. Klein will share the story of his wife Linde’s cancer treatment and their decision-making process regarding her care. Linde died in July 2011, three years after her cancer diagnosis. Klein will talk with WXXI host Elissa Orlando about the importance of advance directives and communication about personal wishes for treatment of disease. Dr. Patricia Bomba, Vice President and Medical Director, Geriatrics, at Excellus BCBS, will join in the conversation and will review the process for advance care directives.

The program airs on National Healthcare Decisions Day, which is an initiative designed to inspire, educate and empower the public about the importance of advance care planning. Both Klein and Bomba will take telephone calls (585-263-9994), email (asktalk@wxxi.org ) and social media-generated questions from the listening audience.  The special will also air Monday, April 16 at 12 noon on WXXI-FM HD2 91.5, and WEOS-FM 89.7/90.3 in Geneva.
