Rochester, New York (January 4, 2012) - WXXI and Al Sigl Community of Agencies’ programming initiative – Dialogue on Disability: The Herman & Margaret Schwartz Community Series – has been celebrating the amazing lives of people with special needs for the last decade. At the heart of this initiative are programs that can be seen on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11), WXXI-CREATE and City 12, and heard on AM 1370/FM-HD91.5-2 and Reachout Radio that encourage community dialogue about the abilities of people with disabilities and the importance of inclusion.
The centerpiece of this year’s program is a film that introduces viewers to 28 musicians and singers. For Once in My Life, airing Thursday, January 12 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD, takes an infectious, expectation-defying look at the inspiring Spirit of Goodwill band, a unique ensemble with a wide range of disabilities who share an uncanny gift for music, joy, and friendship. Following the band, made up of workers at the Goodwill Industries Center in Miami, the film captures their determination, talent, and dedication.
In addition to the Spirit of Goodwill band’s amazing story, Dialogue on Disability features several uplifting films and TV programs throughout the week:
WXXI will also broadcast a variety of children’s programs on WXXI-TV/HD and WXXI CREATE (DT 21.31 cable 433), that deal with disability issues. For a complete list of children’s programming, visit WXXI.org/dod.
