WXXI Celebrates Dr. Seuss’s Birthday with The Cat in the Hat at
The National Museum of Play

(Rochester, NY) January 24, 2012 – WXXI celebrates Dr. Seuss’s birthday at the National Museum of Play at The Strong on Monday, February 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meet the Cat from the PBS Kids series, Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That!, and enjoy lots of silly activities. Dr. Seuss’s birthday celebration is being held in conjunction with the National Education Association’s Read Across America program, a national effort designed to promote children’s literature. The Read Across America program is held each year on Dr. Seuss’s birthday, March 2, and to commemorate the day WXXI will broadcast a two-hour The Cat in the Hat-a-Thon! on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 8 a.m. and again at 2:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT2.1/cable 1011 and 11).

Other activities at Dr. Seuss’s February 20th birthday celebration will include a screening of a never-before-seen Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That! episode in the theater, a “build something silly” activity inspired by Dr. Seuss’s books, story readings, a hands-on science scavenger hunt, a visit to the Upside-Down House in Reading Adventureland, and a chance to make and decorate whimsical hats to take home. The event will also serve as an opportunity for children to sign up for a library card and check out books from any of the museum’s book nooks and for families to learn about WXXI’s PBS Kids’ Club. All activities are free with museum admission.
