Rochester, NY (December 13, 2012) – WXXI’s Innovation Trail presents a week-long series of reports on the healthcare sector in upstate New York and its rapid transformations in the areas of telemedicine and e-record keeping. Innovation in Healthcare includes features on:

  • The Hudson Headwaters Health Network, a group of Adirondack clinics using a new model of care called a "patient-centered medical home."

  • The RNA Institute of the University at Albany and their strategic partnerships with the business sector aiming to get innovative medicines, vaccines and diagnostic tools to market.
  • An app that sifts through Tweets on Twitter to show users the location and number of sick people in their area, as well as their likelihood of falling ill.
  • A Binghamton researcher who has come up with a plan to manage heating and cooling by remotely monitoring the body temperature of workers.
  • A hospital that’s being pressed to pay for city services, while another facility argues it invests more than enough in its community already.
  • A new Telemedia network that links together 40 primary care facilities and 8 hospitals in the Adirondack and Champlain regions.

Innovation Trail, funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), is a collaboration of six upstate New York public media outlets led by WXXI, and including WBFO (Buffalo), WRVO (Syracuse/Oswego), WSKG (Binghamton), WMHT (Albany) and North Country Public Radio (Canton).
