SID THE SCIENCE KID VISITS WXXI AND THE ROCHESTER MUSUEM & SCIENCE CENTER FOR AN ADVENTURE WEEKEND APRIL 28 & 29

(Rochester, NY) April 18, 2012 – WXXI is proud to bring Sid, from the hit PBS Kids series Sid the Science Kid, to Rochester to meet his preschool fans in Upstate New York. On Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sid will be at WXXI’s Studio, 280 State Street in Rochester for a meet and greet, and invites kids to engage in scientific discoveries. The event is free and open to the public. Parents will be able to take pictures of their kids with Sid, and kids will explore scientific principles through hands-on experiments and collect “Little Scientist Day” journals to record their discoveries.

Then, on Sunday, April 29 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sid will visit the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) for “Explore with Sid the Science Kid” program, part of the museum’s “Adventure Weekends.” The program is free with regular admission to RMSC:  $12 adults, $11 seniors & college students with ID, $10 ages 3 to 18, free for children under 3 and RMSC members.

At “Explore with Sid the Science Kid” visitors have the chance to meet Sid and have a picture taken with him. They’ll also investigate the scientific principles that explain why things are what they are through hands-on science experiments and activities, and view Sid the Science Kid episodes. Participants will also collect their own special “Little Scientist Day” science journal and use it to explore the exhibits at the RMSC.

Sid the Science Kid, part of WXXI-TV’s PBS Kids line-up, is an educational, animated series that uses comedy to promote exploration, discovery and science readiness among preschoolers. It airs on WXXI-TV/HD weekdays at 1:30 p.m.
