Saturday, June 25 at 1 p.m. – Lyric Opera of Chicago presents Puccini's The Girl of the Golden West
(Rochester, NY) – Classical 91.5 continues its Saturday afternoon presentation of operas with Puccini's The Girl of the Golden West, airing Saturday, June 25 at 1 p.m. on Classical 91.5/FM-HD 91.5-1.
Puccini was fascinated by the American West, and California during the Gold Rush was perfect for the adventures of one of his most memorable leading ladies. A handsome outlaw in disguise! The sheriff in hot pursuit! And a garter-snapping, pistol-packing, poker-playing heroine who knows when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em to save the man she loves.
The opera stars Deborah Voigt as Minnie, Marcello Giordani as Dick Johnson (Ramerrez) and Marco Vratogna at Jack Rance.
Lyric Opera of Chicago, founded in 1954, is one of the world's greatest opera companies. It is renowned internationally for its artistic excellence and financial strength. Over the past two decades the company has achieved unparalleled success in its ticket sales, averaging 100% attendance from 1988-2002, and more than 90% attendance since that time. Lyric Opera is also distinguished for having operated in the black for 22 of the past 23 years.
