Friday,
March 23 at 1 p.m. – Backstage Pass with Publick Musick
(Rochester, NY) – Julia Figueras welcomes Rochester string quintet Publick Musick led by violinist Boel Gidholm and cellist Christopher Haritatos, to Backstage Pass, airing Friday, March 23, at 1 p.m. on Classical 91.5/FM-HD 91.5-1. Backstage Pass with Publick Music will feature Isabella Leonarda’s Vespers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1698. The Vespers are a sacred masterpiece for voices and strings composed by the 17th century's most prolific female composer.
Founded in 1995, Publick Musick seeks to enrich the cultural landscape of Western New York by producing and presenting vibrant, historically informed performances of music from 1600 to 1800 and beyond. Their special emphasis on female composers and composers of non-European origin lends their March concert to Eastman School of Music’s Women in Music Festival (March 26-31, 2012). The concert will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 25 at Christ Episcopal Church in Pittsford.
The Backstage Pass performance will be video-streamed live on the Backstage Pass website (at WXXI.org/backstage-pass) and will be available following the broadcast.
Backstage Pass is a live, hour-long radio series that is committed to highlighting performing artists – giving Classical 91.5/90.3/FM-HD 91.5-1 listeners the opportunity to hear local and visiting musicians performing live. The series is made possible in part by a grant from the Gouvernet Arts Fund at Rochester Area Community Foundation.
