Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m. Houston Grand Opera

(Rochester, NY) – Classical 91.5/FM-HD91.5-1 continues its commitment to year-round opera on Saturday afternoons with six new presentations from the Houston Grand Opera, beginning Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m. All recorded live at the Wortham Theater Center, each broadcast is hosted by WFMT’s Peter van de Graaf.

The season kicks off with R Stauss' Araidne auf Naxos. A feast for the eyes and for the ears, Strauss’s elegant and moving meditation on the conventions of the theater pits a comedienne against a prima donna at a high-society dinner party in Vienna. Three glamorous and acclaimed leading ladies join forces onstage: sopranos Christine Goerke (Ariadne / Prima Donna) and Laura Claycomb (Zerbinetta) and mezzo-soprano Susan Graham (Composer). After his unanimosly acclaimed appearances as Cavaradossi in Tosca, Alexey Dolgov returns to Houston Grand Opera as Bacchus and the Tenor in this lavish, sparkling production directed by John Cox and conducted by Patrick Summers.

The broadcasts continue:

October 29, 2011 at 1 p.m. - Puccini's Madame Butterfly
November 5, 2011 at 1 p.m- Heggie/McNally's Dead Man Walking
November 12, 2011 at 1 p.m - Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor
November 19, 2011 at 1 p.m - Britten's Peter Grimes
November 26, 2011 at 1 p.m - Puccini's Tosca
