Tuesday, April 12 at 8 p.m. – Planet Forward
(Rochester, NY) – As Earth Day 2011 approaches, WXXI presents the latest edition of Planet Forward, a one-hour special that harnesses the power of the online community to uncover innovative, real-world solutions to global energy and climate challenges. Hosted by Frank Sesno, Emmy Award-winning CNN veteran and Director of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University, Planet Forward airs Tuesday, April 12 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11). Featuring ideas submitted to Planet Forward's website, this season focuses on ground-breaking concepts for how energy can be generated or used more efficiently.
“Planet Forward gives engaged citizens, entrepreneurs, scientists and students the opportunity to share their energy solutions, and connect those innovative ideas with leaders in the energy field,” said Frank Sesno, Planet Forward’s host and creator. “These ideas have the power to change the nation’s energy future.”
Taped in front of a studio audience at The George Washington University, Sesno is joined by a panel of energy experts with backgrounds in business, science and policy. Profiles of five of the most innovative, intriguing and inventive ideas submitted online are featured, and then evaluated by the panel with an eye toward the potential for real-world success. The studio audience votes for their favorite concept which is named the Earth Day 2011 Planet Forward Innovation. Progress on this innovation will be tracked for one year on planetforward.org to see how the idea continues to develop.
