Sunday, August 2 at 11 p.m. – Celine Dion: A New Day
(Rochester, NY) – Celine Dion repeatedly brought down the house during her acclaimed five-year run of Las Vegas’s hottest show. Now, after closing her run in Las Vegas, Celine comes to public television stations across the country with this record-breaking concert special. Celine Dion: A New Day airs on Sunday, August 2 at 11 p.m. on WXXI-TV (DT21.1/cable1011/cable11).
The program was filmed at the specially designed, 4,000-seat Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Created by Franco Dragone, the world-acclaimed director of 10 Cirque du Soleil productions, the inventive concert special defies expectations. It is a hip, visually stunning, and wildly entertaining musical experience.
A giant LED screen provides an ever-changing backdrop to each song and creates remarkable visuals while more than 50 dancers fill the stage with energetic choreography and dazzling costumes. Acrobats flip through the air during “Love Can Move Mountains,” peacock-costumed dancers twirl on stage during “The Power of Love,” and a virtual palace appears during “It’s All Coming Back to Me.”
The star of the show, of course, is Celine Dion and her soaring vocals. From powerful ballads like “A New Day Has Come” and “Because You Love Me,” to the popular standard “I’ve Got the World on a String” and a cover of “I Drove All Night,” Celine brings her trademark, emotionally gripping vocals to every song. She demonstrates her versatility as a performer during a funk-filled rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish,” and her virtual duet with the “The Chairman of the Board” is a touching crowd pleaser. A highlight of the show is the final number, “My Heart Will Go On,” the Grammy and Academy Award-winning theme song from Titantic.
More than 3,000,000 people saw Celine Dion: A New Day live in Las Vegas. Now, fans can enjoy the phenomenal performance in the comfort of their own homes. And, for those never able to witness a live Vegas-style performance, this show presents the onstage energy the best ticket in the house provides.
