(Rochester, NY) – WXXI brings viewers the Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert 2010, a Great Performances special, airing Wednesday, August 25 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV (DT 21.1/ cable 1011 and 11).With conductor Franz Welser-Möst at the helm, the Vienna Philharmonic returns to the magnificent gardens of Austria’s Imperial Schönbrunn Palace for the orchestra’s annual summertime celebration.
The musical highlights of Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert 2010 underscore the Palace’s majestic surroundings and explore the theme of “Moon, Planets and Stars,” with selections from silver screen composer John Williams’ theme from “Star Wars,” Johann Strauss’ “Viennese Spirit Waltz,” Josef Strauss’ “Off on Holiday! Quick Polka” and Gustav Holst’s “The Planets.” The evening’s program also includes a performance of Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 by Yefim Bronfman.
