Monday August 8 at 10p.m. – Our Summer in Tehran
(Rochester, NY) – Our Summer in Tehran, airing on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11) Monday, August 8 at 10 p.m., transports viewers into the seldom seen realm of middle class family life in Iran, transcending overt politics in favor of subtle, human, and often humorous moments. An encore presentation of the film airs Sunday, August 14 at 7 p.m.
Filmmaker Justine Shapiro took viewers into the lives of Palestinians and Israeli children in and around Jerusalem in her Oscar-nominated documentary, Promises. Now, the Jewish-American filmmaker and former host of the travel series Globe Trekker, takes her six-year-old son Mateo with her to Tehran. There they spend the summer with three families: a religious family with ties to the government; a modern, secular family; and a single mom who is an actress. When the Iranian government abruptly gives Justine and Mateo 48 hours to leave the country, promising relationships are severed.
