Wednesday, June 9 at 8 p.m. – A Night with John Denver

(Rochester, NY) WXXI-TV presents two John Denver specials back to back on the evening of June 9th. Arguably one of the most beloved American performers of the 20th century, John Denver had a career that saw him sell more than 40 million albums worldwide while winning numerous awards, including two Grammy® Awards, three American Music Awards, one Emmy and two Country Music Awards.

John Denver Rocky Mountain High Live in Japan, airing Wednesday, June 9 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11), is a 1981 concert from his seven-show tour of Japan and features a wonderful selection of hits from his career, including four of his five No. 1 hits: "Annie’s Song," "Calypso," "Sunshine On My Shoulders" and "Thank God I’m A Country Boy." This performance finds Denver and his band in terrific form, delighting an enthusiastic audience that included Japan's Royal Family.

Immediately following at 9:30 p.m., WXXI-TV presents John Denver: The Wildlife Concert. An intimate performance featuring the songs that made John Denver an American treasure, this concert is a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Wildlife Conservation Society, features candid interviews that express Denver’s commitment to nature and add new insight into his songs. This show was taped before a studio audience at the Sony Music Studios in New York City on February 23 and 24, 1995 and was Denver’s last televised concert and interview.
