(Rochester, NY) – In the Footsteps of Champlain, airing Wednesday, November 25 at 10:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV (DT21.1/cable1011/cable11),includes over seven minutes of original animation from the first fully animated PBS historical documentary. Hosted by Thom Hallock, the program pays a visit to Artifex Animation Studios in Montreal. There, Writer-Producer Frank Christopher and Director Marc Hall are working with a team of animators to faithfully reproduce the exact historic details of the 17th world that Samuel de Champlain explored. Christopher and Hall describe what compelled them to tackle Champlain’s story, some of the challenges involved, and a major historical mystery they’ve helped solve in the process. Also featured is Pulitzer-prize winning historian David Hackett Fisher, author of “Champlain’s Dream”. Fisher is not only interviewed for the project, he is then turned into an animated character himself. Period music from the Quebec musical group, Ensemble Terra Nova brings authentic 17th century sounds to this program that pays tribute to a great North American figure exactly 400 years after he set foot in New York.
