Monday, October 25 at 10:30 p.m. Losing Lambert: A Journey of Hope & Survival

(Rochester, NY) – Suicide, the third leading cause of death among teenagers, is a vastly misunderstood phenomenon – rarely considered plausible by the people whose lives are destroyed in the wake of this sudden tragedy. Losing Lambert: A Journey of Hope & Survival, airing Monday, October 25 at 10:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11), explores the mystery of teen suicide with stunning insight.

The 30-minute documentary tells the story of Kathy Fowler, a Pittsburgh-area mother whose 16-year-old-son Lambert Hillman died by suicide in 1995. Kathy struggled through her own loss, grief, and questions, but now helps other families who’ve lost children to suicide. The documentary also explores first-of-its kind research on the brains of teenagers who have attempted suicide.

More than 34,000 people die from suicide each year in the United States. Males are four times more likely to complete suicide, and the rate of suicide has doubled in the last two decades for children ages 10-14.

In 2010, Losing Lambert: A Journey Through Survival & Hope was awarded the national Gabriel Award for Outstanding News/Informational Program. The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania also recognized the documentary with a 2010 Golden Quill Award for Best Television Writing.
