Saturday, September 11 at 8 p.m. – Aretha Franklin Presents: Soul Rewind
(Rochester, NY) – WXXI brings its viewers the Sister of Soul with Aretha Franklin Presents: Soul Rewind, airing Saturday, September 11 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11). The special is a comprehensive collection of rare performances by legendary R&B performers of the classic 1960s-70s soul era, offering an abundance of long-lost archival material that has been recovered from film vaults across the United States, England, Germany and France. Franklin presents this treasure trove of precious and vital footage. An encore presentation of Aretha Franklin Presents: Soul Rewind will air on Sunday, September 12 at 10:30 p.m.
The latest installment in the My Music series represents the culmination of many years of research and planning. Among the historical performances are a wealth of selections from Dick Clark Productions’ landmark series “American Bandstand” and “Where the Action Is.” These full-length songs haven’t been seen since their sole network broadcasts more than four decades ago.
Notes executive producer TJ Lubinsky, “Being able to see the original artists perform their original hits in their prime as they were first experienced by kids back then is nothing less than mind-boggling. What a thrill it is to return to the roots and soul of American popular music in the 60s — and to have this program presented by the royalty of Aretha Franklin is such a tremendous honor.”
