(Rochester, NY) Season eight of Globe Trekker kicks off with a journey to the countries of former Yugoslavia, The Balkans, airing Thursday, April 9 at 10 p.m. on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11) and WXXI-HD (cable 1011 and DT 21.1). Host Zay Harding begins his travels in Kosovo, where he dances with a local Albanian band and visits Gazimestan, the site of a 500 year-old battle, but which is currently patrolled by UN troops since the Serbian withdrawal. He moves on to Serbia where he participates in a moustache competition, backpacks by barge through Belgrade, and enjoys the Guca Trumpet festival with the Roma gypsies. Next it’s on to Bosnia Herzegovina where Zay explores the capital city of Sarajevo and the mountain villages of Lukomir and Mostar. His last stop is Montenegro and an exciting log-raft trip down the Tara River Canyon, the deepest in Europe.

Globe Trekker transports viewers to unforgettable destinations through its stunning photography, rhythmic indigenous music, and spirit of adventure. In each episode, one vibrant young traveler ventures off-the-beaten path to soak up the local culture, sample the cuisine, and revel in breathtaking vistas. In keeping with their aim of "living as the locals do," charismatic hosts Ian Wright, Justine Shapiro, Megan McCormick, and others explore everything from big-city landmarks to exotic sights in remote villages. The eighth season features brand-new episodes shot in the Balkans, Utah, Colorado, California, South Korea, Morocco, and Australia. In addition, special episodes highlight American water treks, the food of Mexico, World War II sites in Europe, volcanoes, and some of the world's best shopping.
