Sundays, January 18 and 25 at 9 p.m. – Masterpiece Classic: Wuthering Heights
(Rochester, NY)– Actress Laura Linney hosts a thrilling new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s haunting classic, which chronicles the passionate spiritual bond between Heathcliff, an abandoned Gypsy boy adopted by the Earnshaw family of Wuthering Heights, and the family’s daughter, Cathy. Masterpiece Classic: Wuthering Heights airs Sundays, January 18 and 25 at 9 p.m. on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11) and WXXI-HD (cable 1011 and DT 21.1).
The three-hour miniseries stars Tom Hardy (The Virgin Queen) as Heathcliff, newcomer Charlotte Riley as Cathy, and Burn Gorman (Bleak House) as Cathy’s brother, Hindley. Published in 1847, the novel was condemned by one critic as “abominably pagan” for the dark passion throbbing in the heart of its irredeemable hero-villain.
In part 1 airing Sunday, January 18 at 9 p.m., the fiery Heathcliff grows to manhood with the Earnshaw family of
Wuthering Heights, tormented by his stepbrother, Hindley, and
falling in love with his stepsister, Cathy. But he has a rival for Cathy’s heart.
Heathcliff returns to Wuthering Heights in part 2 airing Sunday, January 25 at 9 p.m., as a rich man after a long and mysterious absence.
Still pained by his love for Cathy, he sets to work wreaking revenge on two generations of
those who wronged him.
