Tuesday,
November 4 at 7 p.m. – Election Night Coverage
(Rochester, NY)– WXXI provides in-depth coverage on Election Night, Tuesday, November 4. Coverage of national political races from National Public Radio (NPR) begins at 7 p.m. on AM1370. 1370 Connection’s Bob Smith and the Center for Governmental Research’s Erika Rosenberg offer analysis on local, state and national races beginning at 9 p.m. on AM1370. Live in studio discussions, as well as on-site reports from convention headquarters will be featured, including reports from WXXI’s Capitol Bureau Correspondent Karen DeWitt.
More than 100 journalists stationed in NPR’s D.C. headquarters, and from key battleground states and campaign sites, will report live during NPR News’ Election Night coverage. NPR’s Robert Siegel and Michele Norris host, while NPR’s Washington editor Ron Elving, national political correspondent Mara Liasson and political editor Ken Rudin in D.C., and News & Notes host Farai Chideya provide analysis. Throughout the night on-air and online, NPR will cover all major national and regional results, updating its interactive election map at NPR.org as states are called; carry major candidates’ speeches; and provide political analysis and reaction.
Beginning at 9 p.m., WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11) and WXXI-HD (cable 1011 and DT 21.1),
will broadcast NewsHour Election Night Coverage with Jim Lehrer and his senior correspondents. WXXI’s news team will provide updates on local and state races at the top of every hour.
The NewsHour coverage includes: Judy Woodruff reporting live from Obama’s Chicago headquarters; Ray Suarez reporting live from McCain’s Phoenix headquarters; Gwen Ifill speaking with political analysts Amy Walter and Stuart Rothenberg; Margaret Warner getting perspective from The NewsHour's panel of historians; Jeffrey Brown speaking with NPR correspondents on the ground in key battleground states; and Kwame Holman presenting a NewsHour feature using voter videos submitted via YouTube, “Video Your Vote.”
AM1370 coverage can also be streamed live on WXXI’s web site at WXXI.org. The site also offers on-going election coverage, and poll results as they come in.
