Intelligence Squared U.S.: Guns Reduce Crime
Saturday, November 15 at 3 p.m.
Recently in the U.S. it seems as if partisan rancor has replaced reasoned debate; mainstream media has become contentious and ideological; and discussions of important issues are being dominated by emotion rather than by facts and analysis. The debate series Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) attempts to change this trend and raise the level of public discourse on the key issues of our day. Intelligence Squared U.S.: Guns Reduce Crime airs Saturday, November 15 at 3 p.m. on AM 1370 and WXXI-FM HD 91.5-2.

America Abroad presents Winning the Peace: Rebuilding Nations from the Ashes of Conflict
Saturday, November 22 at 3 p.m.
In America Abroad's Winning the Peace: Rebuilding Nations from the Ashes of Conflict, airing Saturday, November 22 at 3 p.m. on AM 1370 and WXXI-FM HD 91.5-2, former Secretary of State Colin Powell was fond of citing the so-called Pottery Barn Rule, "You break it, you own it." The U.S. had no trouble breaking the Taliban's hold in Afghanistan and Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq. But rebuilding those nations has proved much more difficult.
Winning the Peace: Rebuilding Nations from the Ashes of Conflict takes a look at why the U.S. has struggled to put Humpty Dumpty back together again in Iraq and Afghanistan. It treads the halls of the Pentagon, Foggy Bottom and Capitol Hill to see how many of the problems of rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan begin here at home. And it heads to Baghdad to take a look at how U.S. military and civilian teams have made a course correction that could help to stabilize Iraq. The program also revisits lessons learned and forgotten of past U.S. efforts to help reconstruct broken nations after war.

Born
Saturday, November 29 at 3 p.m. – Born
For one fascinating hour, Born, airing Saturday, November 29 at 3 p.m. on AM 1370 and WXXI-FM HD 91.5-2, examines the current cultural context in which American babies are born, delving into the postpartum experience. Non-narrated, Born shares the stories of mothers and fathers and how they sense themselves, their babies and the world around them. It also presents expert analysis from doctors, midwives, evolutionary biologists, sociologists, and other scientists.
Born further explores the importance of pre-verbal experiences and how those impressions carry over throughout life. Many people believe that a newborn simply feeds, poops and sleeps, but, in fact, much more is happening. How does the postpartum experience impact a baby's blueprint for life?
Born then hears from people who surround mother and baby as they transition into their new lives as it considers the support systems that are necessary for families to thrive. It ends with recent historical shifts that have greatly contributed to the contemporary postpartum experience.
