DTV Benefits
Enjoy more channel selection, and it's FREE! In addition to WXXI-TV.

Digital television technology allows stations to send multiple channels at the same time. This is what allows WXXI to offer WXXI-HD, PBS World and Create/ThinkBright (see list of WXXI channels to the right).

Get more information about the programs you're watching. Depending on the channel and show, your DTV tuner or converter box might display information describing the show and the TV schedule.

See improved emergency communications. Through the power of datacasting, WXXI is using a portion of its digital signal as the backbone for an encrypted Emergency Training & Information Network (ETIN).

In collaboration with the Rochester City Fire Department, this network allows time-sensitive information to be distributed to firehouses, police stations, ambulances and hospitals within minutes!
