On June 12th, 2009 free over-the-air television will change from analog to digital. As part of a government mandate, television stations nationwide must switch from the old method of transmitting TV signals known as analog to digital television (DTV). DTV is a more efficient way to broadcast, and it will free up the airwaves for other services. DTV also provides movie-quality pictures and more channels – including more WXXI channels (WXXI-HD, WXXI-World and WXXI-ThinkBright/Create).
