60 Second Science

Twenty-four wonderful hands-on activities for use with children in your care! Spots air on WXXI between daytime children's programming. Experience the sticky, bubbly, colorful world of science that is all around us! See the 60secondscience.org web site for details about the hands-on activities.

Curiosity Leads The Way is now available. The 30 minute training tape provides a workshop in a box for adults wishing to learn how promote open ended questioning with young children through science explorations.

Tune in: Mon-Thurs. 5:30-6:00 p.m. RTA Dial-A-Teacher takes calls from kids to assist with homework from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Mon.-Thurs. at 585-262-5000 or 1-888-986-2345

 

Homework Hotline gives kids help with homework 4 days each week during the school year. The program also airs statewide on other NYS public television stations.

 

Learning Differently

Have you ever tried to help a child with homework or classwork and find that they just can't remember what they're learning -- they just can't seem to put things together? Many children process information differently and need a different approach when they are being taught. Understanding why they learn differently, what their needs are is a first step to helping them.

WXXI Ready to Learn staff provide 50+ workshops/year to parents and caregivers demonstrating how they can use television to motivate children to read and explore their world through quality children's literature and hands-on learning activities such as WXXI's 60 Second Science experiments.

Services for Families and Schools

WXXI provides FREE accounts to our EdVideo Online service for K-12 students//teachers to use 3200+ instructional video programs over the Internet. <More info>

WXXI produces the statewide Homework Hotline daily homework help show, which also provides a homework help call-in number for 3 1/2 hours each day staffed by Dial-A-Teacher. Additionally, we provide schools in the 11-county area with an overnight broadcast of programs to tape for the classroom, including a WXXI national current events progam, Assignment: The World.
