The Chancel ChoirThird Presbyterian’s Chancel Choir is the cornerstone of the music ministry, providing musical leadership for worship services each week from September through June. In addition to regular services, the choir also presents several major works each year. Director of Music and Organist Peter DuBois conducts the Chancel Choir. The Festival of Lessons and Carols has been a Christmas Eve tradition at Third Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. The choir and parish staff present the Christmas story in words and music. John Wilkinson is Pastor and Head of Staff. In 2001, the Chancel Choir spent two weeks in Great Britain, where the group served as Choir-in-Residence at the Rochester Cathedral in Kent, singing daily services of Evensong. They also gave concerts in Sevenoaks and Coventry, and sang an Evensong Service in Salisbury Cathedral. In July 2005, the Chancel Choir returned to Great Britain to serve as Choir-in-Residence at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The group also presented concerts in the Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral and in historic St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh. The choir has released two compact disc recordings, Shout Joy and Calm on the Listening Ear of Night. Major funding for A Rochester Festival of Lessons and Carols is provided by a generous grant from Seniorsfirst. |
