Telemedicine
Physicians
at Strong Hospital are using modern technology in an attempt to
change the way children are examined, diagnosed, and treated for
illness or injury. Three child care centers in Rochester are participating
in the project which allows children who live miles away to be treated
for health-related issues.
Each weekday, physicians at Strong Childrens Hospital provide
a telemedicine clinic for the Volunteers of America Childrens
Center. The majority of the children, age six weeks through 12 years,
are impoverished. Already 150 children have been diagnosed and treated
for more common illnesses such as ear infections, ringworm, and
pink eye.
NEED TO KNOW looks at the pros and cons of this revolutionary
medicine, including the quality of care given through the use of
telemedicine and future applications.
