Prideland is a short-form digital series following host and actor Dyllón Burnside (from FX’s “Pose”) on a journey across the South. The six-episode short-form series launched on PBS Voices, a documentary-focused YouTube Channel by PBS Digital Studios
Produced by Tiny Horse, the series highlights authentic personal stories brought to life through Burnside’s curious, exploratory lens. As an LGBTQ+ advocate, he guides viewers into the South’s various LGBTQ+ communities, connecting with people of different backgrounds, locations, experiences and points of view.
“Being a queer boy raised in the South, I had distinct memories of feeling like I could never be my authentic-self there, so I left seeking acceptance and affirming communities. But I never left my southern roots,” Burnside said. “I wanted to go back as an adult and see if things had changed, and I’m proud to report that they have. Although there are still many challenges for queer folks in the south, which is home to more LGBTQ+ adults than anywhere else in the U.S., I’m in awe of everyone I met who are creating change in their communities. I believe that authenticity is a superpower, and these queer heroes and allies are truly inspirational.”
Prideland addresses how and why attitudes towards the community have changed, the ongoing challenges still faced by LGBTQ+ people, as well as stories of celebration and the vital role of allies. In their own voices, members of these communities answer questions that help to create real understanding of who they are and what it means to be their authentic selves in the places they call home.

This film tells the national story of redlining, a practice which embedded racial segregation and inequality into the development of American cities and suburbs.
What makes some neighborhoods more desirable than others? Why are similar homes in two parts of town dramatically different in value? Why are some neighborhoods falling apart while others are thriving? And how does this all play into the wealth and education gap we’re facing today?
Redlining maps, introduced in the 1930s, delineated risk areas for federally backed mortgages and home-ownership programs. Risk was determined almost entirely by race. Neighborhoods where no loans would be made were outlined in red, or literally “redlined.”
The film explores the stories of local families who were impacted by redlining, and the lasting effects of federal housing policies on the Miami Valley and the nation. It also makes some surprising discoveries about the roots of redlining and introduces some larger-than-life personalities who have been all but forgotten.

Super WHY! is the first preschool series designed to help children learn to read through interactive story adventures. Each 22-minute episode features a team of fairytale superheroes who soar into classic storybooks and use their unique reading-based powers to find answers to everyday preschool problems. With curriculum guidelines established by the National Reading Panel, Super WHY! teaches preschoolers key literacy skills, including letter identification, decoding, encoding, spelling, and reading comprehension.

Mike Pecoriello, a series producer from 9 Story Media Group, is excited to introduce the show to families. “The hilarious villains of the series wreak havoc and create problems that our Super Readers need to use their literacy skills to solve,” Pecoriello said.“But they can’t do it without the home viewer — Super YOU!”
These short episodes also include catchy songs — such as “Start with the Sounds,” “S is More,” “Spell It Out,” “Nothing Stops a Sentence Like a Period,” and “The Long Vowel Song” — that help kids remember the reading skills they’ve learned.

The Liberty Square public housing community in Miami becomes ground zero for climate gentrification
Independent Lens: Razing Liberty Square airs Wednesday, February 19 at 3:30 p.m. on WXXI-WORLD.
Liberty City, Miami, was home to one of the oldest segregated public housing projects in the U.S. Now with rising sea levels, the neighborhood’s higher ground has become something else: real estate gold. Wealthy property owners push inland to higher ground, creating a speculators’ market in the historically Black neighborhood previously ignored by developers and policy-makers alike.

Chris Packham helps autistic people illustrate how their minds work, helping them connect with their friends and family in a new, more authentic way.
Inside Our Autistic Minds airs Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV and streams live on the WXXI app.
Since sharing his own autism diagnosis with the world, naturalist and presenter Chris Packham has been flooded with letters and emails from other autistic people, frustrated that their friends, families and co-workers don’t understand them. By teaming up with top film-makers, graphic designers, animators and musicians, Chris helps a group of autistic people create short films to reveal to their family and friends how they’re truly feeling inside – what’s really going on in their autistic minds.
This program repeats on January 18 at 4 p.m. on WXXI-TV and streams live on the WXXI app.
This program is presented as part of Dialogue on Disability, a partnership between WXXI and Al Sigl Community of Agencies – in conjunction with the Herman and Margaret Schwartz Community Series.
